1.) The M1 "Garand" Self loading rifle was the standard issue american rifle throughout WW2, and was used in all fields of combat.
It had many functions and abiltities like bayonets coulds be fixed, and as used widely in the Normandy campaign, a rifle-grenade could be attached.
It initially replaced the Springfield rifle, which used a bolt mechanism.
The rifle was gas powered, and had a rotating bolt for easy semi automatic use.
It fired an 8 round clip at an effective range of 550 Metres.
The gun also featured a distingtive bell which rang when the last shot was fired and the clip ejected from the gun.

It was called "The weapon that won the war" and "The best firearm ever created by general Eisenhower and other military leaders.

The m1 Carbine is a light version of the M1.garand and uses a similar mechanism.

Paratrooper versions of this weapon featured a folding stock.
The gun was used intensively by the Americans on all fronts of war, and was favoured by the infantry.
Origionally, The term carbine means a weopon which could be fired on horse back, but in these terms it would mean fired on the move in general.
It fired a 15 round clip at an effective range of 200 feet.

The Thompson Sub machine gun was the standard issue machine gun in
the British and American armies, developed in slow quantity, this weapon eventually could only be issued to NCO's, officers and special forces.

The gun could be fired from the hip,yet featured a sight for accurate firing.
Refered to as the "Tommy" gun, it originated from the Gangsters of New York and chicago, but was recognised by the military and adopted to be used in the Army.
It either used a Stick Magazine or a Drum magizine.

It fired 20-30 Shots and had an effective range of 150 feet.

The Browning Automatic Rifle, or BAR was used by the American troops for a long time, and was sometimes called "The best weapon of the war".

It could be fired from the shoulder or hip, which was effective in close or long range combat and was fired in bursts to great effect.
It had a bi-pod attached for mounted action and was a great mobile machine gun, great for supression.

With a clip capacity of 20 rounds it had an effective range of 548 Metres.

The Browing M2 Machine Gun also known as the 50 cal or five-oh.

Designed in 1921 and first saw service in 1932. Has been in practically every conflict ever since.

It was first designed as an anti-air gun but its potential on the ground as an infantry support weapon was seen and a support variant was made, the M2.

It is used all around the world by many different countries with teh design hardly changing since it first saw service. with many differnet variants being made since.

It has a maximum range of 7,000 metres but an effective range of 2,000 metres. It is used on many different platforms, aircraft, vehicles and ships.

The gun has large stopping power and the bullet, a 12.7mm, is now used in powerful longer range sniper rifles such as the american Barrett sniper rifle which has the power to blast through steel sheet and reinforced concrete.

Chris
