Has gotta be the Long Range Desert Group as there led on to the formation of the Special Air Service, the highest trained and most feared regiment in the world. I think they've earned they elite status especially with operations like the Iranian Embassy Seige and the ill fated Bravo-Two-Zero. A tale of an eight man team that led to the death of three of the team members , two from hypothermia, and four of them being captured and the remaining member escaping on foot over 180km of desert.
Well thats my favourite but you can't really have a favourite because every Unit in World War Two served their country and did their duty and deserves to be remembered with honour and distinction. Due to their bravery and determination.
Gotta Be the Staffordshire Regiment. They fought all the way from the zulu wars right up to the Iraq War now.
Today they operate Warriors
Staffs are now going to be merged with some other regiments to be called the Mercian Regiment 3rd Battalion!

I would go with the L.R.D.G. and S.A.S.
David Stirling kicked it off,but for me it is Blair "Paddy" Mayne. One utterly scary person, his own troops were frightened of him.So imagine being a german..
There is a mural dedicated to him on the Newtownards Rd in Belfast,it covers a full gable wall.A brave man indeed.

technically the LRDG assisted the SAS AFTER their early mis-haps in the desert... it was with their help that the Germans were so p******d off with the SAS after they drive down runways shooting and grenading every Luftwaffe aircraft in sight
do you know their first un-official mission was against the New Zealanders to steal their kit
